The counseling visit takes place in the patient’s own home and is usually carried out by an by an employee of an outpatient care service or one of the nursing homes run by the care insurance company. The aim is to improve quality in of home care and to support caregivers. The Consultation visit is from care degree 2 obligatory. During the consultation visit, the care and support situation is assessed in general terms: the care professional should assess whether care and support is provided by family caregivers. If the care professional considers the situation to be unsafe, they must give reasons for this. It can also recommend measures to improve the domestic situation. These include §45 care services, §39 respite care, the receipt of care services in kind, short-term care or home adaptations to reduce barriers.
If you as a person in need of care receive care allowance for home care and do not receive help from a professional caregiver (e.g. from an outpatient care service), you are obliged to have a regular consultation. The interval at which the consultation must take place depends on the care level awarded.
People who are cared for at home and have care level 1 are not obliged to have the counseling service carried out in accordance with Section 37.3. However, they have the right to receive advice once a year if they so wish. You can ask your care insurance fund about this.

The results of the interview are recorded on a form and sent to the care insurance fund by the care specialist. During the consultation, people in need of care and caregivers have the opportunity to ask for tips and advice on how to improve their personal situation. The fixed appointments (every three or six months) mean that measures can be reviewed together with the care specialist in the follow-up consultation and adjusted if necessary. As a rule, the person who carries out the consultation visit will send the certificate directly to your care insurance fund. This is how they bill the care insurance fund for their advisory services. This means that you as the person in need of care or their caring relative do not have to provide proof of the consultation visit yourself.
Care allowance recipients have the option of choosing their own advisor for the consultation visit. The consultant must have the appropriate qualifications. The following persons may provide care advice in accordance with Section 37.3:
